MEETINGS
In
June 2004, a group of citizens gathered to explore possibilities
for protecting the trees of Carteret County. To reach that
end, the group has written and presented a model tree protection
ordinance for local governments, hosted educational booths at
festivals and fairs, planted trees and started a Champion Tree
program for the county. Through local contests sponsored by CC-TAG,
a champion Live Oak and a champion Eastern Red Cedar have been
identified. CC-TAG has also researched and published a brochure,
How
to Protect Trees during Construction, which is available
to the public. A rack card Color
It Green With Trees is available
as well.
The
mission of the Carteret County Tree Awareness Group is to preserve
existing trees and encourage the planting of new ones through
promoting the development and passage of tree protection ordinances,
educating the public and providing a central location for information
and expertise.
Meetings,
open to all interested persons, are held the third or fourth Monday
of each month. Please call 252-726-4841 for time and date.
